Jacob had stood and thrown away the canned drinks he had purchased for one of the cafeteria’s vending machines and had followed the captain, leaving his mic test unfinished. That could wait until closer before the show anyway. Even if he was absent the rest of the band knew his tuning and would have it taken care of when he got back.
When they entered her quarters his eyebrows shot up, admittedly a little surprised. This was the first time he had ever set foot in the officer’s section of the ship and he was a little bit nervous if he was honest. For the first time in a long time the laid back southern boy was nervous. He didn’t know is she was a newtype or not so the idea she had somehow known what he was thinking back on the firing range. The idea of that sent a shiver down his back.
“Is... is there something you wanted to see me for, ma’am?”

" Please drop the ma'am. I'm only seven years older than you are." Carolina might have been his senior and officer in charge but she cared so little about it. She explained how he was without a doubt the best pilot on board despite his unproven status and the fact she didn't take Ai into account due to her quite frankly frail health. That ECOAS fellow didn't inspire Carolina with much confidence and Lt. Commander Seydlitz herself turned down the F90.
The blunette handed over the datapad with the base schematics for the Gundam F90 unit 1 which was about to arrive in a few hours straight from the Frontier colonies. Information on it's different weapon configuration could also be found in the display.
" I am confident you will be able to use such machine to it's full potential." Unlike most other commanders Carolina was all about positive encouragement. She had already been given command so the least she could do was inspire confidence in her subordinates.

Jacob stared at the information on the datapad and flicked through a few pages, his face going from curiosity to shock to eventually quiet worry as he glanced over the machine’s specifications. Compared to this gundam unit his Jegan was a completely outdated piece of equipment in every capacity. Sure the cockpit layout might be just about the same but he knew they would handle completely differently.
He gave a nod, realizing that his commanding officer seemed to share his opinion of the ECOAS staff although to a lesser degree. He looked up from the tablet and nodded again, she confidence in him bolstering his own nerves about this.
“It’ll take a while to get the machine tuned to me and it’ll also take a couple days for me to get used to it but I won’t let you down, Carolina.” His face brightened and he gave her a smile, not quite as nervous anymore. He chuckled a bit and grinned, embarrassed that for a second time that day his mannerisms had come back to bite him. “I hadn’t meant anything by calling you ‘Ma’am’, honestly. Has nothing to do with age; it’s meant to be a sign of respect regardless of age actually.”
