Ronan Mahoney sat in his quarters fresh out of the shower, a bottle of hot coffee in hand from which he sipped from. Ronan preferred a nice cup, but micro gravity made that rather difficult. In his other hand was a book, All Quiet on the Western Front a book from within a war from the dark ages. The war was considered the first world war, it reminded him of the one year war in a way. Ronan took a sip and adjusted in his reading chair. The journey to mars had been quiet so far, no ambushes yet but soon they would be in the Mars sphere proper. Then he heard his door buzz, company just as he had expected. Bookmarking the book he would close it with one hand and speak out.“Come in. The door is unlocked.“

Captain Sofia Torres graciously floated into the admiral's room holding onto a plastic container where she had packed freshly made cookies baked by the Villa's cooks. " Here are some oathmeal cookies, sir. Chocolate chip and berries." There was certainly plenty of them inside the hermetically sealed contained, it's warm aroma filling the room once she opened it up and put it on the table.
Carolian Cordova arrived right after. She too had brought a little snack in the shape of a carrot cake with white frosting on top. " I hope it's to your liking, Admiral." THe blunette kindly offered, starting to cut it into slices. In the Federation Space Forces it wasn't uncommon for upper echelon officers to spend an evening discussing work related matters over supper.

Ronan would set aside the book he had been reading as the pleasant warm smells of cookies and cake filled his room. This reminded him somewhat of his earlier days. A warm feeling came to his core as he sat back and would nod quietly with some thought."Wonderful, simply wonderful." he would say his eyes looking from the cookies to the cake as it was sliced."You two certainly have good taste." he said in a calm manner. Ronan would of course help himself to a slice and two cookies, one berry and one chocolate chip.

Both women were certainly glad to see their Admiral was pleased with the gifts they'd decided to bring. It didn't take long for Carolina and Sofia to get themselves their own portion of coffee to go along with the pastries and cake.
Carolina couldn't help but notice the book he had been reading. All quiet on the western front was a classic so she'd certainly given it a read a long time ago. " Been a while since I read that book. I was a young girl when my auntie Marina showed up at our house with it in her purse. I read all of it in two afternoons."
Sofia on the other hand was busy stuffing her mouth full of carrot cake. She didn't eat sweets often so now was the time to indulge.

Ronan bit into a cookie before washing it down with some of his coffee."Only started reading recently, wish I read it a long time ago." he said with a slight nod."Wish more people back then read it... or at least educated themselves on the events around it and after..." he said adjusting where he was."Reminds me somewhat of the war..." he added quietly."What was your take on it? The book I mean." he asked curious.

" It certainly left an impression on me. It has a very powerful message that naturally resonates with those in our line of work no matter how long as it been since it was written." If Carolina could use one word to describe the authors work it would be 'Misery'
" It's really telling the closest thing that book has to an antagonist is the teacher that urges his students to enlist and their drill sergeant." Sofia added, having also read it during her days as a junior officer.

"It really takes me back... That is for certain." he said with a little pause as he took a sip of his drink."But the in this book, it was a different kind of war in many regards. In comparison to the one year war, but a lot of it... it feels like it was a repeat for the third time in a row." he said with a shake of his head."Damed Zeeks..." he said with a breath out."You two seen any action?" he asked curious.

" I've been in a few policing operations. A handful of skimishes against pirates and smugglers." Carolina explained to Ronan that while she wasn't the most experienced she knew how to carry on her duties under operational conditions.
Sofia told Ronan she had joined the Federation right in time for the 2nd Neo Zeon conflict, hunting down Axis remnants all the way to UC 0098. " I've fought Neo Zeon remnants before but nothing too glorious just the odd platoon of Geara Dogas and Bawoos. Milk runs basically ... " As a Captain she understood well the Martians would be a toughter nut to crack.

"Hmm, yes of course." Ronan said quietly and thoughtfully."So you've both seen your fair share of action, and different types as well. I trust that your unique experiences will bring a fresh look upon the operations to come." he said with a momentary pause."I am fortunate to have you both here." he added thinking for a moment more."While these Martians are but a mere shadow of the strength of the Principality of Zeon they cannot be underestimated, just as every other Zeon remnant group." he said as he shifted his coffee in his hand a little a small hint of worry on his face."If I may, I would like to confidentially confess something to the two of you."

Carolina had seen first hand the state of her aunt Marina's ship had been left after fighting against the Martians alone. It was very clear they couldn't be underestimated, even someone as confident as her had to come to terms with her own mortality when facing this enemy.
When it came to handling work related matters, Sofia always kept a cool and stoic demeanor, making certain she was always up to the task at hand." We won't breath a word of this to anyone, sir." Sofia would gently nudge Carolina, wanting to get her on board with the statement she just made in front of their direct superior.

Ronan did not say a word for a moment before he nodded."This operation is rather personal to me. On two fronts." he said."My greatest foe and enemy leads their fleet. During the one year war he was a part of a two ace team. I encountered him several times, and each time was the closest I ever came to death. On a number of occasions he took one of my comrades with his squad-mate. During Á Bao A Qu he took someone special from me. Then I took someone special from the both of us... Ever since the one year war I have hunted him and I think he is finished running away. The person I refer to was known as the Rozen Knight, and now at a moments notice he can take from me again. The memories and ghosts of that war have haunted me, and made me do thins sometimes I regret. But it will end here." he said lending them an honest moment.

" You can count on us, Admiral. We will do whatever possible to keep casualties to a minimum." Sofia had instructed everyone under their command to request clearance before engaging in combat. This was not the time to get in pointless confrontations if possible to avoid.
" At least until we reach Deimos. Sieges are messy affairs after all. " Carolina was not expecting a short term victory. Sooner or later someone was going on the defensive and the Martians held home advantage.
A lieutenant knocked at the door. Upon making his way inside the officer delivered a message to Sofia. Their EWAC had picked up an unarmed shuttle transmitting an SOS. The operator had gotten into contact with the crew of the shuttle and were told they were bringing in prisoners of war including the rear Admiral son.
" Shall we send a team to investigate?" Sofia asked Ronan.

Ronan stayed quiet for a moment obviously deep in thought."It could be a trap..." he said though not entirely sure what could be accomplished."Yes, send a team to investigate. But I want a long range weapons team to act as backup." he said not wanting to take any chances."Why are they just giving us these prisoners?" he asked himself.

" Awfully kind of them to send us back our people ... " Carolina would try to wrap her head around their logic for willingly returning their POWs. Naturally she was skeptic about all of this, not discarding the possibility it could be a ploy.
In less than two hours, the shuttle would be approached and the identities of everyone on board confirmed to be the people Marina had reported as MIA aftter being sent on a one way mission to attack the enemy rail gun installation.
Amongst the prisoners came Ronan's son and his wingmate 1st Lt. Megumi Aika. Prior to being released the two of them had been approached by Chairwoman Isabel Brandt and were briefed on the illicit activities of their former Captain Marina Von Witzland prior to this conflict. Megumi had been given a hard drive with evidence collected that suggested that Marina had been the person behind the theft of the Gundam F90 unit 2, said documents also involved senior members of Anaheim Electronics, particularly a certain Miss Patricia Hanley.
Megumi would turn that information over to the admiral so he could analyze it throughly.

Ronan had made sure to see his son as shocked as they were that they had actually assembled a fleet. That they had actually transferred to the Space Forces and left their cushy position in South East Asia. They did not know how they expressed how they felt, both proud of his father and happy to see he cared to come. But still, his resentment came through the cracks as always. Did they come for him? Or did they come for the old enemy. Their son could not be sure, because before he could ask about what he thought about the evidence they were sent away for a medical check up. Then Ronan sat alone in his personnel quarters to examine the evidence. They were there for two hours. Then and only then did they call back the two Captains.
