Late March UC 112 Around Deimos outer perimeter.
Captain Erica Reyes was able to sneak her way into a combat patrol assignment. The Gundam F90 unit 2 she was currently commanding had been outfitted with two large fuel tanks that would allow it to operate far beyond Deimos sensor coverage network. At this point in time, the Gundam had already been extensively analyzed by their own engineers who were now involved in replicating some of its new systems to save precious time.
At full thrust, Erica was able to exit the defensive perimeter of the fortress in under 30 minutes. While it speed was comparable to a Rebawoo in MA configuration it was thanks to its lighter construction. Instead of a beam rifle, she had deployed with a beam Bazooka developed in house.

"Just a lowly ensign out on patrol in a prototype mobile suit and texting experimental weapons, great." Jacob thought to himself. He had been sent ahead on a forward scouting mission just outside the range of his mothership and was maintaining pace and position at exactly his designated coordinates. Instead of having been given scouting gear he found himself saddled with a new kind of weapon system that he had heard the engineers talking about excitedly. "VSBR" they had called it. Variable speed beam rifle, he guessed without knowing what exactly that would entail. He was smart enough to notice that the barrel could move but he hadn't quite what that would entail.
It was another couple minutes of uncomfortable silence when an odd feeling made him sit up straighter and search the monitor more thoroughly. His eyes settled on a moving dot that he could barely make out and he scowled. It was moving far too fast to be a battleship, so it must have been a mobile suit; and it was heading from the area ahead of him. Jacob sat quietly in his cockpit and moved himself to track the object and monitor it's trajectory. If both the unknown and himself continued on the same path he could estimate that they would eventually come in to a collision. "Familiar to Wizard actual, tracking unknown on scopes, possibly bogey. Predict collision course in twenty, over. Please advise." This was the first time he had broke radio contact in what felt like an hour and he spoke freely, knowing that the connection was securely encrypted.

" Familiar, this is Wizard actual. Correct your course away from the bogey. Keep your distance and do not engage unless it's necessary." Lt. Commander Seydlitz replied to Jacob. Right now she was covering a wider sector along with their EWAC. --- Erica noticed movement ahead of their trajectory. She contacted the closest early warning asset who informed her there were no friendlies operating in that sector.
" Red Rock, this is Horus-1.I have confirmed the presence of an unknown in sector Tango Sierra. Moving in to intercept." She had been ordered to chase down and destroy any would be hostiles, however the F90 weaponry wasn't suited for long range combat which meant she had to get closer, maintaining speed and vector.

"Roger that, Wizard actual, will belay contact and adjusting course."
Jacob sighed and began to decelerate slowly, drifting slightly back and holding position. Even in his role of an advance guard it was tempting to fall back under the range of the Hidalgo's long range sensors. He remained quiet for a couple minutes but his eyes darkened as he watched the bogey adjust it's course. "Wizard actual, Familiar has adjusted course and bogey has shifted course. Expect engagement in ... minus ten. How copy?"
His body felt tense as he relayed the change in course with tight lips. His eyes hadn't left the unknown blip in the distance and seeing as it moved onto an altered course. This thing was fast, faster than anything he'd been told to expect. In fact he wasn't able to match the glow to anything else. The models he could think of that could move like that were usually large but based on the size and speed of the blip there was only thing it could logically be even on a long shot. Even though he had orders to hold fire unless necessary Jacob brought the right VSBR forward and raised it. Since the other mobile suit was still out of range he began to track his target and dialed up the particle speed just on a hunch, expecting to want all the range advantage he could get.

" Familiar, you are cleared to engage if the bogey doesn't alter its vector in minus 8." Lorena would advise, having picked up the incoming signature with the help of Magic-their early warning Jesta. Having a fight in their hands was preferable than getting Jacob killed by inaction.
" Whatever it is, it's got a hard on for you, Familiar." Lt. Commander Brenda Cantrell would chime in.
---
The Beam Bazooka while powerful was far from being acuratte at long distances. The F90 unit 2 sensor recognized its sister unit since it's information had been filed during preliminary tests before being "stolen"
"F90 Unit 1, huh? Let's see what you got. " Erica would let the C.A AI unit take over, allowing her to focus on maneuvering while closing in on the target at full speed. She was well aware that while fast and nimble this type of mobile suit could fell prey to lower caliber weapons. At close range even the Vulcans could score a killing blow.

Inside of his climate controlled cockpit Jacob’s blood had gone cold as he looked at his display for a moment as his machine recognized its former twin unit. “Sir, it’s Unit 2. Request permission to engage!”. At this point the ensign’s strict adherence to radio code has been overwritten by by a mix of fear and adrenaline. Even though he had earned his way up the ranks to his status as an ensign this was his first taste of truly symmetrical combat.
He sighed a couple of times as he watched his target, well aware of just how fragile his machine was. At this range he held an advantage with the experimental technology equipped to his suit and there was no doubting his own confidence in his skills as a marksman. Even though he lacked the Char AI of Unit 2 he still had the Amuro based program on hand with its skill at tight maneuvers. In the back of his mind he wondered just how much he could do with the metaphorical spirit of one of the Federation’s greatest aces at his side.

" Blow it to hell! We have confirmed the presence of enemy reinforcements converging in our position. It seems they aren't going to let us go without a fight either." Lorena would grant Jacob permission to fire at the incoming enemy after Brenda notified her there was a formation of six Bawoos approaching their EWAC unit at high speed.
" Meet us at the Rendezvous point. Magic and I will take care of these clowns first." The Delta Kai would arm its beam smart gun, making use of the EWAC Jesta sensors to aim more accurately over long ranges.
The F90 unit 2 was traveling at full speed, the flare of its booster visible as it drew closer. Erica was not one to stay still in one vector for two long and would correct her course every few seconds in order to prevent him from getting a firing solution.

“Roger, wilco.” Jacob focused hope attention on his target and gritted his teeth as he pushed his nerves out of his mind. Being jumpy was the last thing he needed if he was about to go against the enemy’s newest trophy.
He began to take his own evasive maneuvers and accelerated towards his target. His own course was equally erratic as his opponent’s, making sure he avoided crossing over his original path with each move as he tried to line up a shot. The other F90 was hard to track but after a few seconds he took a ranging shot with his VSBR as the bogey began another maneuver. The lead was imperfect but it was the best he could manage in this kind of movement.

Erica had not received a warning until she saw a volley of incredibly fast beams streaking not far from the unit she currently moved into position. It was obvious this enemy was already trying to get a bead on them, to stop and aim would mean making herself a far easier target and if that Feddie was a decent shoot he would be able to make his corrections that much quickly.
The F90 unit 2 now approached in a straight line, not wanting to give Jacob the time to get lucky with his second shot. Erica would fire the beam Bazooka in front of them and then make a slight course to avoid hitting her own beam. That shot she fired was mostly aimed at making unit 1 waste time defending.

Jacob had anticipated the shot and had altered his course as soon as he realized he didn’t have his shot on the first go. The shot from the other F90 passed through his original vector and he cursed as he realized that his opponent was trying to force him out of a firing solution. If they kept up like this then the less mobile VSBRs would become more of a hinderance than an advantage.
Jacob altered his course to put himself down and to the other machine’s left and force it to reposition as well. Rather than rely on the VSBRs for another attempt he let the weapon slide back into position, raised the rapid gatling cannon, and fired a wide burst of controlled fire. The smaller high velocity kinetic rounds were plenty to penetrate the weaker armor of the F90s and after his luck with the VSBRs it was time to try something new.

One of the many benefits of having a smaller silhouette allowed Erica to cover a larger area with the RF Gelgoog shield she was carrying. The armored slab absorbed the Gatlin barrage, some rounds bounced clean off while others embedded themselves in it.
At the flick of a few switches, Erica had adjusted the beam Bazooka to fire significantly weaker mega particle discharges. There was no need to fire it at full power since it would waste too much energy and overheat way quicker.
This single shot was aimed at the source of that rapid fire tracer, not having the time nor luxury to line up a perfect shot.

The AI of the F90 had predicted that the shot was coming as soon as Jacob had felt it, and the beam passed straight through where the center of mass would been if it hadn’t been for the retro thrust that slowed them down just enough for the mega particle blast to strike the edge of the beam shield as it came to life in a brilliant green starburst.
Jacob caught his breath and let out some of the tension in his shoulders. Now that the shield was up he brought the VSBR to bearand began to accelerate towards the red mobile suit in a spiraling pattern with the beam shield as its center. He pulled the trigger of his weapon twice, answering the other machine’s mega particle shot with two fast moving beams of his own.

The VSBR barrage went clean through the RF Gelgoog type shield wielded by Unit 2. The beams penetrated the upper torso rather effortlessly, causing severe damage to the internal mechanism which caused Erica's HUD to start displaying the full extent of the damage. The sensors would be affected by the temporary loss of power, effectively shutting down its long range array, though the extra batteries could power the systems for a while.
" That was an impressive attack!" Erica applauded the Federation pilot marksmanship. The power of that weapon he used was not to be taken lightly either but she could still fight back. At this range there was no reason for her to keep the Bazooka, throwing it at Jacob's general direction and then firing a high explosive grenade at it knowing the beam shield was not going to be able to cover from multiple angles.

There was a flash in his mind as Jacob saw the other F90 throw its bazooka. He activated his retro thrust and put his shield between himself and the explosion he knew was coming. The shrapnel tore the legs with ease with a rattle that reached Jacob in the cockpit. “You aren’t going to scare me with some rookie trick that people forgot!” he yelled loudly over the noise. He opened his radio as he held onto the last syllabe and charged into the hail.
In the shower by sheer luck everything behind the beam shield generator and cockpit hatch survived, but the rest of the suit was a wreck. The left arm, partially shielded, was attacked limply while the other was completely gone. All things considered the upper layer of armor could have held up worse but there was no chance of the machine to move except by its inertia. As the battered cockpit section skewed Jacob felt his head hit something and after that he was out.

A few hours later ...
Jacob would wake up on the Hidalgo sick bay. By his side Lt. Commander Carolina Cordova sat with tears streaming down her face. The whimpering blunette gently tugged onto his sleeve, her hand caressing Jacob's awaiting the moment he would regain consciousness.
Something unexpected had occurred at the end of the skirmish. Captain Erica had been ordered by none other than the Chairwoman to break the engagement and return the mobile suit she was currently piloting. Naturally she grabbed the drifting F90 unit 1 and set course for the Federation battle group, using it's IFF to avoid being shot on it's approach. Upon landing Jacob would be taken to the sick bay while Erica was ordered to step out of the cockpit with her hands above her head, allowing herself to be disarmed by the guards who confiscated the service handgun she kept holstered on her belt.
