The first sign of life from Jacob was a long, low groan followed by a slow full body shudder as he slowly came back to his senses. The world around him was a blur of light and shadows and somewhere nearby was the sound of somebody crying. The first time he opened his eyes the light was blinding and he quickly shut them again. After a few seconds he tried to sit up but found that his body felt like it weighed a ton as his head hit the pillow. In truth he had only moved it a quarter of an inch.
Soon the stars began to fade from his vision and he realized he was in a sickbay. The realization came dully to him but the same couldn’t be said about the surprise. “How...” he asked groggily. His mouth felt slow to move just like the rest of his body but after a second he was able to prop himself up on an elbow and looked around. When he saw the captain his jaw dropped a little. He knew that she was compassionate towards her men but he had never expected her to wait at the side of one’s bed, much less be crying.
In another part of his mind he realized that the rear admiral was probably going to kill him for disobeying orders and getting the F90 cheeed to ribbons. Odds were the only reason they would bother repairing it at this point is that they miraculously had the spare parts to rebuild it brought aboard the Hidalgo on the same day as the mobile suit.

Earlier the doctor expressed concern regarding Jacob's condition. Seeing him open his eyes and attempt to stand up was quite relieving for Carolina who reached for a tissue to wipe away her salty tears from her eyes and cheeks.
" Thank goodness you woke up. I was worried you might slipped into a comatose state. How many fingers do you see?" Once she'd stopped bawling her eyes out, Carolina would stick her index an middle finger up as if making a victory sign.
Once they had made sure Jacob was indeed fully conscious and there had been no side effects she would explain to him that the Unit 2 hauled him back to their lines, being kind enough to also surrender to a pair of GM IIIs.
" From what I have heard that Martian pilot had orders to deliver us unit 2." There were a few questions regarding the engagement that Carolina wanted to speak once he had recovered.

“Two. They wobble slightly but just two.” Jacob replied coolly after a moment. The room swam at the courners and Jacob felt nauseous but at least he was lucid. His body felt fine but it felt like he had the worst hangover of his life.
As he slowly tried to sit up the world swayed and his stomach jumped. Holding one hand to his stomach and the other to his mouth he turned away from the captain. “Can somebody get me a bucket?” he managed.

" Oh dear!" Carolina had no issue playing nurse, quickly reaching out for a handy plastic urinal stashed away underneath the bed. While he threw up she called the nurse who rushed to see if he had any further complications.
" D-don't worry about your report anytime soon. We'll just check the flight recording and gun camera footage." It was slightly embarrassing for her to be bothering him at an inconvenient time like this so she would walk out leaving him under the nurse care.

Rear Admiral Ronan Mahoney rubbed his temple with closed eyes before delivering a very tired yet annoyed sigh."I had very explicit orders did I not?" he would ask Carolina as she had left the room. His eyes looking at her he had just gotten done taking a look at the F90 for himself."Lets go look at the gun camera footage. I want to see it for myself." he said deciding that due to the condition of Jacob he was in no condition to receive any form of disciplinary action. Instead, the Rear Admiral would need to have a less harsh punishment in mind. They would be grounded until further notice, which they would be informed once they were better.

By the time the puking had stopped the dizziness had begun to fade. Jacob lay back on his bed and groaned. The pa that had been given to him had already been taken away to be sanitized and having emptied the contents of his stomach in a matter of minutes. By the time he was down to dry heaves the room had stopped spinning and his eyes were watering.
In addition to the pounding headache the slow realization that he had completely disobeyed orders had began to sink in. In fact he preferred the nausea over what was ahead of him. He had let his emotions get the better of him in his first contact with the enemy and had even disobeyed orders, getting a rather valuable piece of hardware destroyed for his effort. The fact he had made it out alive was beginning to feel more like a curse than a blessing.

Later at the briefing room...
Lt. commander Lorena Seydlitz arrived back on the Hidalgo along with their EWAC Jegan. Without changing out of her normal suit she would rush to the briefing to adress the Rear Admiral.
" Sir, I was the one who gave Ensign Dean the clearance to open fire on the bogey. We got surrounded and cut off while out on patrol. Please allow me to bear full responsibility for my actions." Lorena would admit the mistake was actually her own. The in flight recording also confirmed the order had come directly from the Delta Kai she piloted.
---
On her way to the infirmary, Lt. Brenda Cantrell picked up a pair of apples and an orange to take to Jacob. The F90 was in a sorry state but the cockpit itself looked undamaged so it was logical to think he was going to walk out of this one. . " Yo! How does it feel to be a casualty?" The purple haired signal officer would joke, setting the fruit and a litter bottle of electrolyte solution next to his bed.

"Yes then recording makes that very clear Lieutenant Commander." Ronan stated in a rather straight forward manner."However, that leaves a question." he said with a pause."Multiple actually." he quickly added on."Could you give me the briefest of explanations of what happened from your point of view? Now you say you were surrounded and cut off?" he asked waiting for a response.

Jacob’s head was still throbbing but he had felt the presence of the other newtype before she entered the room. He was sitting up in his bed when Brenda entered and even managed to crack some form of a smile. Her easygoing manner was infectious and the pall that had been trying to settle on his mood was lifted a little.
“Aside from hitting my head on something, I’ll probably be back on my feet by tomorrow. Think I’m more afraid of what the Old Man will do to me than I was of the enemy pilot” he commented dryly as he reached for the juice. He took a sip and sighed. Both the nausea and that particular unpleasant feeling he had been emanating during their first briefing with the rear admiral were gone now, leaving him feeling rather tired if anything. “I’m surprised I didn’t wake up handcuffed to an infirmary bed aboard some rotted out Musai or something honestly.”

" We ran into a formation of six hostiles, mostly Bawoo types. I was alone with our EWAC Jesta and had to fight our way out. Ensign Dean was jumped at by the enemy F90 at the same time, had I not given him the order to shoot back he could have been shot down for certain." The Delta Kai currently being serviced at the hangar did bear light scars from that skirmish, clearly the Martians were shooting to kill.
Carolina understood why Ronan had given them orders to be extra cautious but it was obvious to everyone the Martians pushed the offensive on the first place. " The enemy F90 did assume an attack vector on Jacob first, sir." Even under Ronan's directive anyone in command would have given Ensign Dean clearance to open fire in self defense.

" Nothing is going to happen to you, Jacob. You'll be back in combat before you know it." Brenda explained to him that pilots like him weren't exactly expendable. " I've gotten away with way worse shit back in the day. We crashed against each other all of the time and all our superiors could do was slap our wrists and have us go through extra training."
" By the time we got to you, the Zeek pilot was hauling you back to our lines. We were expecting it to use you as a meat shield, I for once I am glad it surrendered so willingly." That experience had been stressing beyond belief for both Brenda and Lorena, by some miracle it never came to the worse case scenario.
