PERSONALITY & TRAITS |
---|
Once in his life he was a bright eyed idealist who genuinely thought he was doing the right thing though over the years he has become somewhat jaded. He started his service in the One Year War as a somewhat naive young man and has sense gone through the phases of shock, anger and now is usually rather nonchalant even in the most dangerous circumstances. He is however not at all as complacent or negligent as he appears.

[/tbody]
Cornelius’ was born to a poor emigrant family who were attracted to the stories of opportunity and prosperity in the colonies. There they were greatly disappointed, finding strict taxation and exploitation from the Federation they had hoped to leave behind. Cornelius grew up watching his family struggle to get by under the thumb of the Earth Federation for his formative years and with the help of friends he became enamored with the Colony Independence Movement and signed up for the Side 3 military academy the day he was old enough much to his parents’ dismay and protest. They tried to warm him that he was getting in over his head and that the instability of the colonies was only going to get worse but he insisted and threw himself into what he did with aplomb. His first real baptism in combat came in the battle of Loum where he was responsible for crippling a pair of Salamis cruisers using an MS-06C Zaku II. From there his career spanned multiple fronts and many close calls across north africa and well into western Europe. During his time on Earth he began to truly experience the traumas of war for himself as the initial blitzkrieg soon turned into a stalemate. After the fall of Odessa he was part of a small group that was forced into a breakout action following being cut off from their original evacuation point. Among those who survived the push was a civilian war correspondent whose work portrayed the move of desperation as a shining example of the fighting spirit of Zeon and soon catapaulted the mobile suit pilots among the group into figures for Zeonic propaganda. His new position somewhat chaffed with Cornelius but he grew to fill the shoes thrust upon him. By the battle of Solomon rumors were beginning to spread that the so called ‘Falcon of Zeon’ was indeed a newtype, though Cornelius himself was never truly examined by the Flannigan Institute before the war’s end. After the battle of A Boa Qu he regrouped with a retreating Gwazine-class battleship as well as several other pilots. Freed from the relative shackles of being a war hero Cornelius has come to somewhat enjoy his position now that he is free of the watchful eye of the Zabis. He is a strong believer of independence for the colonies though he hardly cares whether it comes in the form of a nation called Zeon or not.
