On board the Rewloola class carrier "Hesse" 12th of March UC-112
It was no secret that Isami held a bit of a preferential treatment towards his sister Izumi. He had her sit with the rest of the higher ranking officers during all three meals through the day in order to get Izumi more acquainted with the administrative roles on board the ship but at the same time dedicated a few hours everyday to train her in order to become a better pilot.
That afternoon he would boot up a simulation program: A fairly difficult virtual scenario in which the two of them would face against am enemy force that outnumbered them completely in what appeared to be a urban setting where the buildings would provide a obstacle as well as an advantage, depending on which side of the street they fired from. The enemy ranks were composed of fairly standard Federation built mobile suits like the latest Jegan and Rezel variants along with smaller targets such as tanks that would harass them from hidden ambush positions.
Unsurprisingly, Isami always deployed in his trusty AMX-014 Doven Wolf. Despite the machine not being well suited for close combat, the purple haired effeminate man put this rugged frame through it's paces against pairs of enemy mobile suits in close combat. Even someone with his skill would take a few hits every now and then, in most cases relaying on Izumi to silence the enemies he distracted with unpredictable maneuvers which often led to him taking enemy fire head on. He wasn't usually this bold in battle but he figured he could set an example to his sister whom he was relaying for support.

It was a surprise to Izumi when her brother had her sit with him as well as the other high-ranking officers during their meals. She did as she was told but, likely unsurprisingly to Isami, stayed fairly quiet. She listened to them as they spoke, speaking up whenever someone would address her. But a part of her always felt like she didn't belong among that group.
She felt a little more at ease during the training sessions with Isami, though she still felt nervous even during simulations. While Isami was had his Doven Wolf in it, Izumi was piloting a Geara Zulu. It was easy to see the differences between the two of them during it: Isami liked to get right up close to the enemies while she preferred staying back. But the training had been paying off for her: As Isami disrupted the enemy forces, Izumi would line up a shot on one of the disrupted mobile suits with her beam sniper rifle. The purple-haired young woman was breathing faster even as she told herself to stay calm, trying to keep up with her brother's movement and disable any enemy units she could before he would get overwhelmed.

Two Rezels slipped pass Isami since he had been focused on harassing the Jegans with a barrage of missiles. " Izumi, there's a couple fast movers heading your way. SHow me how well you can defend yourself." He would at least give her some warning, figuring it would be a good idea to test what she'd learned during her training. After all in a real battle it wouldn't be unlikely for her to engage the enemy outside of her comfort zone.
" Her marksmanship isn't too bad ...' Isami thought to himself, having noticed she had been quite able to take out any hostiles attempting to sneak behind him. It was relieving to see she could shoot straight, no doubt thanks to whatever instructor she had back in training.
The two transformable mobile suits would jump on the Geara Zulu from the front, firing their rapid fire frontal guns before doing a high speed speed over Izumi's position. If allowed to get close enough they would begin bombarding her surrounding with grenades but it required them to slow down a little in order to get a better shot at scoring direct hits on her.

Izumi was doing her best to keep up with Isami, trying to take out any mobile suits he was able to distract before they were able to do much. She only caught a glimpse of something moving around him when she heard the warning he gave have. "A-Alright," she quickly answered back. She could feel her heart beating quickly, telling herself to stay calm with every breath she could. Of course, it wasn't actually helping.
Izumi's eyes got huge when she saw the two Rezels she'd been warned about closing in. She tried firing at them to stop them from even getting up close, but they were moving too quickly. They were both in front of her before she realized it, lifting her arm and turning her body to use the shield on her Geara Zulu's arm to protect herself from their rapid fire. And then the two moved again, just as quickly as before. Izumi found herself looking up at the two Rezels as they began bombarding her and the area around her. The purple-haired pilot moved as quickly as she could, trying to get out of the blast radius from the assault. Knowing this was likely her chance, she turned as she ran and aimed at one of the Rezels with her beam sniper rifle again, doing her best to line up a shot before firing.

That last minute shot perforated the Rezel's exposed under side, causing it to crash in the vicinity rather violently and slamming into a building. Taking that shot not only would have without a doubt killed the enemy pilot in the ensuing crash but anyone unfortunate enough to occupy said virtual building. Fighting inside a colony was something all Martians were trained to avoid, however Isami had booted up this program to get Izumi out of her comfort zone. After all they couldn't exactly tell the real federation to not fight inside populated colonies.
While cold hearted Isami felt it was for the best for Izumi to get used to operate out of her comfort zone. Perhaps with some luck this rationale would end up saving her life.
Unsurprisingly both siblings mobile suits ended the simulated battle with extensive damage all over. Isami was not a stranger to these results having grown used to returning to the ship with a few missing limbs and a couple of deep holes in certain areas. Real combat was nothing like what they'd heard from the stories or seen in movies and in this regard these simulations were true to live combat.
This was merely a test he'd come up with to make sure her sister grasped the basics of combat. Since she'd been trained as a reservist in a rapid course it was unlikely Izumi had gotten much experience under her belt so he wanted to help her get more familiarized with this new post.
" That wasn't so bad." He commented upon stepping away from the mock cockpit, wanting to stretch his legs a little after that little training session.

Izumi didn't stop trying to distance herself from the Rezel as she fired at it, not wanting to be too close to it if her shot missed. But she watched as it went through the enemy mobile suit. Her eyes were bigger as she watched it crash into a building, her heart pounding in her chest as she kept moving. Despite it being a simulation, she couldn't help thinking about the people that could have been in that building.
Once the simulation came to an end, Izumi's mobile suit had taken quite a bit of damage all over, with one of its arms not even operable. All she could think about was how much different this was from the things they'd been told when they were little or the training that she'd gone through.
The purple-haired young woman sat back in her seat as the screens went blank, closing her eyes for a moment before getting out of the mock cockpit as well. She looked over at her brother when she heard his voice, taking a long breath. "I'll keep trying to get better," she said, critical of herself as she didn't want to let him down.

" I will certainly make sure of that." Isami would reply back with a toothy grin. Even after all those years together it was obvious Izumi was still a fairly innocent child. In a way going through this training was a bit of a heartache for Isami which he hid behind a grimace posing as a smile, hardening Izumi's heart to the horrors of live combat made him question all of this but every time he reached the same conclusion: that this was on the best interest of their survival.
" I would have wished we would have gotten to live a peaceful life." He sighed wearily under his breath. Isami was not doing any of this for pleasure, obviously. If he had any say in it he would spend most of the day in the arms of Miss Torres or in the company of his close family.
" I am getting you a leave pass as soon as I can so you can go back home. Say hi to auntie Veronica and maybe bring back some goodies." Isami had told his sister that he was interested in buying this wedding ring which he was going to give to Lucia. Under normal circumstances he would have been able to get it himself but thanks to his position as deputy Commander of this vessel he couldn't leave his post unattended.

Izumi smiled a little when she heard Isami's response and saw that grin on his face. Even though she tried to claim that she had grown up and could take care of herself, she still found herself relying on her brother so much. That was part of the motivation she had to not let him down, considering everything he'd done for her since they were little. "Thank you for helping me so much," she said. Of course, she had no idea of everything Isami was trying to accomplish with the training he was putting her through.
The smile on her face faded a little when she heard what her brother said quietly. "I do, too," she muttered. Thinking for a moment about what could have been. But the purple-haired young woman knew herself well enough to know she couldn't linger on thoughts like that for too long.
Luckily, Isami helped when he mentioned getting her a pass to return home soon. "I will," she said, the smile quickly coming back to her face. "It'll be nice to see her." Izumi had been excited about the chance to go home, but for other reasons than just what Isami knew. When he mentioned bringing back goodies, she nodded her head. "I will," she replied, remembering what he had told her he'd wanted to buy for Lucia.
