1st of October UC0079 Grant County- New Mexico Garma Zabi was much more than the usual Brigadier General. While it was true he'd only been given such high rank through sheer nepotis the truth was that this left him wth a reckless desire to prove himself through combat. He was not oblivious to his status as the golden boy of the Zeon attack forces, each sneer or attack on his credibility only fueled his resolve to prove everyone but most importantly his elder brothers and sister who watched with interest as the brutal campaign in North America developed. As of right now his forces had managed to drive a wedge through this last line of defense, bypassing the fortified city of Albuquerque which the Federation ground forces were committed to hold. There was no reason to sacrifice their forces in vain taking a fortified city so Garma had instead decided to simply bypass it and find a way to disrupt the supplies coming in or out. For three weeks a battle over the control of the airstrips had erupted and Garma was in the thick of it, leading platoons of five or six mobile suits from the cockpit of his own MS-06FS. The Zaku's under his direct command were supported by their own air forces who dispatched ground attack aircraft from bases further North, away from the frontlines. The Federation ground forces were dug in deep, their higher ups well ware of the importance of even the most insignificant airstrip since they allowed the fortress city of Albuquerque to be supplies by air.

Second lieutenant Ronan Mahoney sat at the controls of his RGM-79[G] GM Ground Type, a mobile suit that had been rushed through the design process and production. Up until now he had been piloting a captured Zaku II and then on occasion a RRf-06 Zanny. A column Type 61 Tanks supported by APCs and Infantry rushed down the battered street go go reinforce the airstrip."Moving into position now." he updated as he had the mobile suit step from behind the building and into the street. The ground shaking as the air was filled with gunfire and explosions. He made his way over to a partially destroyed stadium which was on the same side of the city as the currently contested airstrip.
Stepping over the cratered stadium field he came to a collapsed portion of the stadium and peered outside. Over and through the buildings he could in the distance see the airstrip. Depending on the side he was looking at it was a mile, two miles, or three miles out from here. Some of the buildings on the strip were obscuring is vision. No matter, it was time to introduce the fact that the Federation now had weapons that could stand up to Zeon.
Raising up his YHI FH-X180 180mm Cannon he poked it out from the stadium and began to take aim at a Zaku II which was advancing."Permission to engage?" e requested.
---
Meanwhile on the other side of this fight was Ekkehard Rosengarten, the Rozen Knight sat in his newly issued MS-06G Zaku II High Mobility Ground Type which had his emblem of the rose painted onto it's shield."Seemeth those gents art keen on keeping this position sir. M're of their pitiful tanks art on the way. Alloweth me to showeth those folk the 'rr'r of their ways." he would say his his flowery elegant way as he raised his machine gun and sent out a volley of machine gun fire out against a Type 61 which had dared to peek it's corner. The shots trailed up to it before impacting, the turret rocketing up as the ammunition in the tank cooked off.

Not far from the stadium the RGM-79 had moved into, an RX-77-2 Guncannon was pressed up against a mostly still intact building, trying to stay out of sight of the enemy forces. The pilot of the mobile suit, 21-year-old Tsubasa Yamamoto, was never meant to pilot one of these machines. To be honest, she'd never even intended on enlisting in the Federation, but her choice didn't matter when she was conscripted and forced to join. And even then, it was only random chance and coincidence that had led her to piloting this mobile suit.
The young woman wince and yelled out just from the sounds of gunfire and explosions seeming all around her. 'I'm not supposed to be here... I'm not supposed to be here...' she thought to herself, her heart pounding as she worried, frightened that the next explosion she would hear would be right next to her, or on her. The Guncannon peeked around the building as much as it could, just in time to watch as a Type 61 Tank was blown up by machine gun fire. Her eyes were huge and goosebumps formed on her skin as a chill washed over her, quickly ducking back. "I don't want to die..." she muttered to herself, looking all over at her controls. But as much as she wanted to run, she was sure that she would just end up getting killed for sure. Of course, staying on the battlefield certainly didn't seem like it would help her to stay alive either.

Sergeant Ryoko Kihara would be lying if she said she wasn't afraid here so close to the front-lines but that didn't stop her from flashing a defiant grin in the face of these odds. For as much as this war was hell the reality of the situation was that their enemies ere certainly suffering even more. Every minute Zeon forces spent on this land it meant pain and tribulation and Ryoko was too eager to be these belligerent space faring people's flogger.
" Pull yourself together, Outlaw-3. There's nowhere to run." The world was truly burning all around them, everywhere they went the war raged on. Ryoko's Ground GM was way up front behind a small hill which provided some degree of cover, of course she was also reliant on her two team mates for covering fire.
----
" You're cleared to engage, Outlaw." Ronan would receive clearance from their commander.
----
" Give them hell." Garma ordered the Rosen knight. At his command, two of the Zaku II's behind would commence an area bombardment using their leg mounted missile launchers. The Zaku to his right flank wielded a heavy caliber field gun while the other on the opposite flank had been given a new type of machine gun, chambered in 90mm.
The withering barrage was aimed exactly at the position where the GMs from Outlaw occupied with the intention of suppressing them. The missiles would rain down over a wide area between Ryoko, Ronan and Tsubasa.

Ronan breathed out at receiving the all clear to engage, leveling his 180mm Cannon and aiming it at the chest of the Zaku II in te distance. He brought up his zoom window and slowly pulled the trigger. His mobile suit shook as the cannon let loose, firing off a massive shell. When he fired he had to account for the drop off. But he watched the tracer, following it with his eyes and then wham! A massive sower of sparks amidst a smoke cloud. The Zaku II stopped moving for a moment, it's mono eye sutting off before it fell forward a hole punched into it's cockpit. When it landed, it exploded in a massive fireball."Cyclops down!" Ronan reported.
---
Rosengarten at that moment saw as one of the Zaku II's ahead of him got knocked out. Quickly, he positioned himself behind one of the airport buildings, falling to a kneeling position."Sir! those gents has't anti ms weaponry. I can tryeth and draweth their fireth f'r thee." he said struggling to keep up with his theatrics, his heart racing from the sudden sight of that Zaku being taken out. Did they have captured Zakus? Didn't look like a bazooka, or machine gun fire. Possibly a 175mm Recoilless Rifle? It had happened incredibly fast. He poked is head up over the building before going up further and spraying down machine gun fire in the direction of the shot. It would fall short however, and he would duck back down.

Tsubasa heard Ryoko's voice over the sounds of explosions and gunfire, but it didn't do very much to settle her nerves. The blunette was never supposed to be anywhere near a battlefield like this, piloting a mobile suit, but events well outside of her control had led her here. The young woman let out a worried whine as she remained hidden where she was, not wanting to reveal herself again after she'd watched that Type 61 Tank being blown up.
And that worry only got worse when the enemy Zaku II's began firing missiles at them, the explosions suddenly so, so much closer. Tsubasa couldn't help screaming as she shook in her cockpit, gripping the controls of her Guncannon tightly out of instinct. She looked over, watching Ronan step out of his hiding spot to fire on the Zeon forces. She started breathing quickly, trying to prepare herself for what she was going to do. As much as she didn't want to be in even more danger, she knew that if she didn't try to fight back, she had even less hope of surviving.
The Guncannon peeked around the corner, looking around a little to try to figure out where the enemy units were. She looked as quickly as she could, worried she would get shot if she took too much longer. But Tsubasa noticed the trails of smoke in the air from the missiles that had been fired at them. She took one long breath before the Guncannon finally stepped away from its hiding spot, pivoting and turning toward the direction those smoke trails were coming from. She winced again and aimed as quickly as she could, firing in their direction with the two 240mm Cannons mounted on her mobile suit's shoulders. It had been sheer luck that she'd even learned HOW to fire them in the first place. But her heart was pounding the longer she stood out there, finally ducking back into hiding when she couldn't handle it any longer.
