Biography:
Ronan Mahoney was born to a relatively wealthy family in New York, the family had made its fortune in the early portion of the Universal Century. His family had originally come from Ireland but moved to North America at the beginning of the Universal Century. Growing up he did not have much excitement in his life as his parents insisted that he concentration on his studies. He also ever really met people from his own social class due to him going to private schools. It did not help that he felt much of what he was being taught would not actually help him in life. He was not even sure if he wanted to follow in the footsteps of his parents. After all, the world had so many opportunities, and going through his family history he saw that things had not always been this way. At one point his family had been a military family, but that slowly petered off. He and his friends talked about the military thinking it was rather cool, noble, and would teach actually useful things. Not to mention, Ronan thought joining the military would help him earn what he got. See he never really felt like he earned his comfortable boring life, he didn't like the idea that he didn't deserve it. That nagged at him, made him want to do something to make him deserve it. Not to mentioned the military seemed like it had plenty of career opportunities. So being a rebellious little shit he decided to enlist in the Federation Armed Forces without telling his parents. Leaving for the military he noticed an orange glow in the sky, that orange glow was Operation British. Seems he had picked a bad time to join the military or did he? Hearing that Zeon had wiped out Australia actually made him more determined now. He now had something to prove and now felt a sense of duty towards this. Not the petty feelings he had before, though perhaps this would fade.
His experience in the One Year War changed him, perhaps for better or worse. He was there for the invasion of North America and saw first hand from a grunt's perspective what a Zaku II can do to a tank column. Those first weeks were terrifying and gave him a new perspective on what he was in for. But he survived with the help of his comrades and got assigned to an anti-ms launcher unit. From here they would eventually become a mobile suit pilot, one of the early ones of the Federation. They had even captured a Zaku II, which is what allowed his unit to be converted into a Mobile Suit unit. This is the role they would play all the way to A Baoa Qu. This was a battle the changed him immensely, losing those he had held onto for so long and being changed by an experience with an enemy new type pilot. Not only that, but seeing so many people far younger then even he die also had a huge impact on him. The true extent of this cannot be said. But he never speaks of A Baoa Qu with anyone, not even his son whom he is so proud of.
